A Near-Death Experience (#15)

Last week, I met with an accident.

I was crossing a highway(with my e-scooter) at the pedestrian crossing. Suddenly, a car taking a free right from the other road came at full speed and hit me. (The guy did not slow down even at the junction)

Thanks to my reflexes, nothing happened to me; I jumped off the scooter just in time. Fortunately, I did not even fall on the road and thus escaped a major incident with just a tiny scrape on my finger.

The guy got down the car and checked up with me. Though he understood that my scooter was damaged, he didn't say a single word about it and drove off.

I didn't like his behaviour because I wasn't at fault and didn't want to pay for the repairs from my pocket. So I took a picture of his license plate and dialled 911 right away.

While waiting for the Police at the crossing, I heard a loud sound.

There was another accident just a couple of meters away from my accident spot. Two vehicles collided head-on as they approached from opposite ends.

One of the cars was packed with women and children. The lady in the front seat was sobbing loudly. She was unable to exit the car. The ones at the back got off, and one of them began to vomit. They all huddled close together and started crying at the top of their voice. Looking at the adults, the children began to cry.

Thanks to the airbags, no one died or was seriously injured. But one of them broke her hand.

The cries, their pain, the vomit and the kids. They are still on my mind. I am aware of my own luck just moments before this accident.

I hope my mind remembers this experience.

For, Near-Death serves as a reminder.

A reminder of how frail and uncertain my life is.

A reminder that TIME is the ULTIMATE RESOURCE.

A reminder that I am running out of TIME.
